its shingle and the sea is shallow, until the tide comes in lol, but i would recommend it to anyone even if you dont have a car, the bus runs from otterton, but like i said it can be a bit pricey at certain times of the year

Be somewhere different to visit, and sounds and looks lovely. Thanks for letting me know about the bus, will check to see how often it runs. :D

the bus does stop in otterton though, so you will have to walk up the hill to the site, the best part is that you wouldn't even know you were by the sea until you turn into the site, have you been to the donkey sanctuary at sidmouth? thats worth a visit too, it's not just for kids lol

As a child, we lived in Woodbury Salterton, at the top, and I did a lot of bike and pony riding to Woodbury Common and the Castle, heaps of walking around up there. We used to go mushrooming, blackberrying, hazelnut gathering... something I cant do here unfortunately, I am too far north and on the wrong side of the country :( . Those things I really miss. And long winter, snowy walks through the fields at the back of Littleham, there was one with a fabulous hill for tabogganing down, but they are all gone now since the old farm went, and the estate was built.
Dartmoor was great, went pony trekking there a few times, a week or two at a time, riding in whatever weather was thrown at us... and we used to be invited to scout campfires and singalongs at night, walking into dopey cows in the dark on the way home. Loved swimming in the icy cold river. The food was "proper job" stuff... fabulous home made pies, bread, butter, scones, cream...everything. *sigh* those were great days.
And then the summers on Exmouth beach, where we could hardly move for bodies, even the pavement between Octagon and Mamhead would be crowded. So many European visitors as well as people from the Midlands and North of England. There used to be a lot of French and Swedish students on Summer exchange back then, do you still have that now?
And all the flowers... I am so glad they are still as lovely, if not even a LOT better, such as we can see of the local gardens, they are lovely :)

I actually dont stop in Exmouth but a campsite called Forest Glade in Cullompton, very nice it is too. I used to stop at Castle Break in Woodbury a long time ago but moved to Forest Glade as it had a swimming pool. Its only about 35 mins to Exmouth and is just off the M5 so fairly handy for trips off etc. I shall be in Exmouth lots though and only 3 hours to departure time. Dont you find sometimes that work is an inconvenience and gets in the way of more important things like wanting to set off on holiday :)

Have a good time Shazza, hope you have plenty of sun.
I was going to Exeter for the W.H.O.T.T. rally in september and thought I might drop down but it looks like I will be walking the Quantocks instead but I am determined I will get back there before november. B)
