The sea, sand, my parents, peace, quiet, fresh air, friendly people, clean, nice walks, good shops, relaxing, close to everything, Dartmoor, Dawlish, Brixham and Exeter and the best ice-cream. Good fishing trips and boat trips. Every time I go I feel like I am going home.

Hello Terri
Everything you have mentioned .Plus The old sandy bay holiday camp before they only became interested in the profits.
Sunday lunch upstairs in the Deers Leap pub with a view of the whole bay, playing with the kids in the sand dunes, fishing for crabs in the rock pools.
We have so many happy memories of Exmouth we consider it our second home.

Incidentally did you know that we have an engraved trophy and play for the Arnold Palmer Championship every time I come down, I was the inaugural winner but have struggled to win it since and last year I ended up in wonford casualty after falling down a divet on the course (I accused my cousin of laying traps for me so I couldnt win), boy was that painful I couldnt walk for 2 days. A week on Saturday will be the next thrilling round of the Arnie Palmer championship as I'm coming to Exmouth you know and as I rung the bell last time I have 2 freebies hurrah.

Not sure about the nice ice cream Terri. Some in the indoor market is nice and the place opposite the camera has some or used to. Mind you, i'm hot on ice cream, if it's not made with real cream then it doesn't interest me.
Bret and Andrea who used to run The Strand Coffee Shop where it was really nice have gone as has that brilliant baker in Albion Hill but at least there are still a lot of nice shops and things and it is still a great place or we would not be on this website so often.
By the way, does anyone know what happened to Bret and Andrea?. B)

We only go to the one opposite the crazy golf, blue hut near where you book the fishing trips. There toffee ice cream with a lump of clotted cream is heaven.

The fish and chip shop in Albion Road [About twenty years ago they were really tasty]
Cockle shell beach with the old wooden huts and the old working docks,My son and myself
returning from fishing big smiles on our faces only for him to drop the fish in the water.
Does anyone remember the steam engine with the coaches that ran between the fairground at Sandy Bay to
the beach top car park at Sandy Bay ?.

hello alan
i can remember the traction engine, it was green and smoked and hissed its way down the track next to smugglers walk (remember that, lit with coloured lights ?) turned in a circle and made its way back up again.
you are right about the old sandy bay, when you could park your tourer anywhere you liked in the field, going to the loo blocks by torch light, trying not to break the gas light mantle when lighting them.
do you remember the single track road leading to the camp, with the odd passing place here and there and encountering another caravan coming the other way.
those were the days !!!

I know that we used to stay at Sandy Bay as a child alot, as my Dads family lived in Exeter, we had a tourer. But can not remember the site at all, will have to get my Mum and Dad to get all the old photo's out. We stayed there a couple of years ago at the Haven camp, but a bit too big and busy for me and noisey. Has the slope to the beach always been there, because I can remember going down rickety old wooden steps as a kid somewhere.

yes,its way too big and busy now. on the plus side the caravan we hire now is on a quiet-ish pitch, with a great view across to the warren and dawlish teignmouth tor bay etc.
i have only known it to be the slope down to the beach, but i have books with old photos showing wooden steps.
i would like a pound for every time i have been up and down that steep slope !

I don!t remember the steps to the beach, But there was a path and metal ladders down to Otter cove where we all went crabbing. Sadly now blocked off perhaps because it did not cost anything.

Its ok walking down the slope, but it kills walking up.... We rent a bedsit now in exmouth, 2 mins from the sea, but enjoy walking to sandy bay, having a quick game of pool and a coke, I did enjoy the holiday, but found it very noisey during the night, everyone walking back to their caravans, sometime till 3am. The caravan you have sounds lovely with beautiful views.

Is Ladram Bay sand or shingle? I remember going pass there on the cruise from Exmouth to Sidmouth last year, remember the sea stacks. I have looked at the site of Ladram Bay, the sea looks lovely and is it shallow?
